Alpha Youth Leadership Academy

The Alpha Youth Leadership Academy works to give young men in the Greater New Orleans a brighter and more positive outlook on life. The program functions with guidance from the brothers of the Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc. Currently, we partner with Warren Easton Charter School to mentor a core group of high school young men to ensure consistent engagement, support, and development. The brothers of Sigma Lambda volunteer/mentor one Thursday out of each month and host enrichment activities on weekends throughout the year. Participants in the Alpha Youth leadership Academy also qualify for priority consideration of the Alpha Phi Alpha scholarship foundation awards. Our aim is to cultivate self-development in minority men so they will become leaders of the next generation.

A Voteless People is a Hopeless People

The Social Justice initiative focuses awareness and activation on important human right issues such as: race and equality, voter rights, and mass incarceration. In advance of 2016 presidential election the brothers SL chapter joined forces with New Orleans collegiate chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha to execute the Alpha Voter mobilization phone bank” that reached thousands of black males in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. This past year the brothers of Sigma Lambda Chapter were recognized locally and nationally to support the removal of confederate monuments in New Orleans. At the 71st Southwest Regional Convention the brothers of Sigma Lambda chapter led a public program with national and local experts on advocacy and action in the era of the Trump administration. The 35th general president of Alpha Phi Bro. Everett B. Ward, Ph.D. has called upon Alpha men from around the world to recognize the fierce urgency of now as it relates to issues in our community. The brothers of the Sigma Lambda chapter will continue to stand up and speak out on these critical issues.
